But to whom much is given, much is required and to those whom much light is given, much is required. In the end it is very simple, you must choose sides, Satan/evil/chaos/sin or Jesus/God/love/life/freedom, there is really no gray area in the end. I think U2 did a great job with the lyrics here and one can make a good argument that it does describe a fictional dialogue between Jesus and Judas.

Roman Catholics revere Peter to this day by claiming he was the first 'Pope.' Whether that is true or not doesn't matter, Peter humbled himself and got elevated by God and His Christ and Judas became a cautionary tale that teaches one not to betray one's friends for ill gotten gains. Peter then went on to be a huge instrument in the Gospel proclamation and establishment of the early Christian church. Jesus did not reject Peter, but restored him to fellowship with love and friendship in the end. Peter, after he denied Jesus three times, instead of killing himself, summoned the courage and swallowed his pride and repented and confessed his guilt and shame to Jesus face to face. So do what Peter did rather than what Judas did. If you give your heart over to evil, sin, the flesh, and the devil, the end result is not life but death. He could have used his sorrow and fleshly guilt to guide him back to Jesus and repent and confess and be restored to fellowship perhaps, but I believe Judas was too far gone and in the end he committed suicide. I suppose this is a cautionary tale about power, deception, betrayal, and eventually succumbing to evil in the end. Satan was even allowed to 'enter' Judas at one point in the Gospel story. Judas' heart was completely in the wrong place because he, like Satan, wanted power and prestige and hoped that by being on Jesus' side as a conquering heroic military Messiah, Judas could further his selfish ambition and gain. He would take whatever he wanted from the money bag and would also criticize a woman for 'wasting' ointment that was used to anoint Jesus. Of course, before I go too far and side with Judas, he was also a thief and selfish, according to the Gospels. Judas completely misunderstood the Messiah's true mission in history which was to destroy the works of the devil and to save many from their sins. After all, he had seen Jesus do extraordinary miracles and for sure Judas believed this was the Messiah to come and destroy Rome and give Israel its rightful place as ruler of all nations in history. Judas must have had extremely high hopes in Jesus. That may sound like heresy, but hear me out.
